Farmingdale State College School of Business

Farmingdale, NY

The School of Business at Farmingdale State College embodies the institution’s evolution from agricultural roots to a hub of applied science and technology. This three-story structure redefines the campus’s main quadrangle, restoring coherence to its academic core. The building’s distinctive façade introduces an energetic, contemporary design, while respecting the established contextual campus design, blending modern materials with traditional campus architecture. Inside, the design prioritizes collaborative learning and community engagement, with a central atrium that doubles as an event space and gathering area, an integrated amphitheatre that creates an informal social hub, and classrooms configured to encourage interactive learning, with faculty offices strategically positioned to foster spontaneous student-educator interactions.

Sustainability is central to the design, with the building targeting LEED Silver certification and energy efficient systems exceeding New York State requirements by 30%, demonstrating a commitment to responsible design practices. This project not only provides advanced facilities for the growing business program but also exemplifies prudent campus planning. By reinvigorating the historic campus center, the new School of Business merges Farmingdale’s past with its future, creating a space that supports current educational needs while enriching the overall campus experience.
