14 Street Station ADA Complex
The 14th Street Station Complex ADA Upgrades project is a comprehensive initiative aimed at improving accessibility and enhancing the overall passenger experience across three interconnected subway stations along the 14th Street corridor in Manhattan. The project encompasses the F/M lines station straddling 14th Street, the L line station under 6th Avenue, and the 1/2/3 lines station west of 7th Avenue. A key feature of this complex is the long pedestrian passageway that connects all three stations, allowing passengers to transfer freely between them.
The primary focus of the project is the installation of nine elevators throughout the three-station underground complex, ensuring full accessibility for all passengers. In addition to the elevators, the project includes extensive reconfigurations of the public mezzanine areas, refurbishment of all stairs not being added or replaced, and modifications to the passageway to create a seamless, fully accessible route between all station platforms, mezzanines, and the street level. The project also incorporates state of good repair work to improve the overall condition and functionality of the stations. As the 14th Street stations complex houses a large back-of-house operation that serves as a maintenance and operations hub for numerous subway stations throughout Manhattan, several of these spaces are reconfigured to accommodate accessibility upgrades and pedestrian flow improvements.
